The Story

In the summer of 1975 a group of student-athletes, parents and coaches got together to build what became knon as the football weight room. Over the past twenty-seven years it served as an edifice for one of the most successful football programs in Southern California. However, time made the current old structure obsolete. In an era of heightened weight training awareness the need for a better and bigger training facility had arisen.

Over the past decade the importance of proper weight training has expanded beyond just football to include every sport on our campus both male and female. In addition to athletics we also integrate weight training into our physical education program. This increase in the need for adequate lifting facilities had placed an undue burden of the inside weight room
, so an outdoors lifting area was created adjacent to the inside weight room, however even with the added space the facility remained inadequate to serve the needs of today’s high school athletes.

The Project

It has been a painstaking journey, as we began planning this as far back as the late 90’s, and volunteers have contributed time and money beginning in the same time frame. We have faced delays, plan changes and a few dead periods of time, but we are now proud to say we are almost there, and the results will far exceed our initial dreams.

Through the combined efforts of the Huntington Beach Union High School District, Edison High School administration officials, coaches, and our outstanding alumni and parent sponsor groups, groundbreaking took place in 2007 on a brand new 5,000 square foot weight room and fitness center. This outstanding new building is now finished, and will be the foundation of Edison athletics for many, many years to come. We believe it is the largest and best facility of its kind in Orange County .

This project has thus far been financed by the high school district (as part of its district-wide facility improvement program), Edison ’s ASB and the generous support of many alumni, parents, and other community supporters. While these funds have been adequate to complete construction of the building, approximately $180,000 in donor funding is required to pay for  the equipment for this new facility. We really need your help to complete The Dream!
