The guidance team consists of 3 guidance specialists, a college/career specialist, a registrar, and a guidance secretary with an Assistant Principal of Guidance overseeing all the services. Services include student enrollment and transfers, class placement, maintenance of student academic records, graduation details and college and career searches. Since 1980, the Huntington Beach Union High School District has not had certificated school counselors to enhance the above services. Assistant Principal Guidance

Guidance Specialists Work in the administration building and enroll new students, attend to student schedules and requests for changes and provide necessary assessment and pre-registration activities for 8th through 12th graders in choosing classes each year. They also review academic records and inform students if they are missing subjects or credits needed to graduate on time or to enroll in a 4-year college.

College and Career Specialist The college and career specialist runs the college and career center and goes out to the classrooms at all grade levels to conduct brief college information presentations. She is available for questions related to college admissions and career choices. She also provides detailed information about college admissions testing and facilitates the PSAT in October, the ASVAB and the SOAR in the spring. She sets up college representative visits in the career center for students. This fall, she is located out in room 502 in the colony. Please refer to the website for more details.

Registrar The registrar is the “custodian of student records”. She maintains student cumulative files, academic records and sends for and receives official transcripts when needed. The registrar evaluates domestic and international transcripts and converses with other schools about student records when needed. She is located in the administration building next to the attendance clerks.

The Guidance Secretary The guidance secretary sets appointments for the assistant principal of guidance and assists the guidance specialists with calendaring events, enrollment and preparing assessment materials for 8th grade pre-registration activities. She plays a key role in the open enrollment process each winter and helps the assistant principal of guidance with transfer requests and special situations of enrollment.
